Customer challenges
- Expro’s 14” BRUTE® Storm System was deployed on a deepwater drillship in the Gulf of Mexico during the 2020 Atlantic storm season
- Following the installation of the 9 -3/8” liner, Hurricane Laura interrupted forced the operator to halt operations and suspend the well
Expro Excellence
- With limited time and no opportunity to retrieve the liner hanger running tools and landing string, the operator opted to suspend the liner running BHA below the 14” BRUTE® Storm System
- The 14” BRUTE® Storm System successfully suspended the wellbore with 550,000 lbs. of hang weight below the packer and a verification pressure test of 2,300psi
- After 21 days, the 14” BRUTE® Storm System was successfully retrieved from the wellbore without incident
Value to client
- Expro enabled the operator to suspend the well quickly using a high tensile load, allowing the rig to move out of the storm’s path without delay
- The BRUTE® Storm System avoided the need to pull additional tailpipe due to the packer constraints, potentially preventing the rig from being caught in a dangerous storm path
- Despite some damage sustained during evacuation, which extended downtime to 21 days, the safe and incident-free recovery of the BRUTE® Storm System prevented any further delay in the well schedule
